What are types of Ice Makers

A portable ice maker is a compact and convenient appliance that is designed to produce ice quickly and efficiently. It is usually small and does not need a permanent water line. This makes it easy to move and use in places like kitchens, offices, RVs, and outdoor areas. Portable ice makers are a popular option for people who need ice. They are great for those without a regular freezer ice maker.

A freestanding ice maker is a big appliance. It is made to be used on its own, often under a counter or in a bar area. Freestanding ice makers can make more ice than portable ones. They are often used in places like restaurants, bars, and hotels.

A nugget ice maker, or chewable ice maker, makes soft, chewable ice pellets. These pellets are popular in drinks like sodas and cocktails. Nugget ice makers are prized for their unique texture and ability to quickly cool drinks without watering them down.

A portable countertop ice maker is like a portable ice maker. It is made to sit on countertops for easy access. These compact units are popular for use in kitchens, offices, and small apartments where space is limited.

A bullet ice maker is a type of ice maker that produces bullet-shaped ice cubes. These ice makers are known for their versatility and ability to produce ice quickly. Bullet ice makers are commonly found in home kitchens and small businesses.

In summary, each type of ice maker has a specific purpose. This depends on size, how much ice it makes, the shape of the ice cubes, and how easy it is to move.

Understanding the different types of ice makers can help you choose the best one for your needs.

Here are the types of ice makers:

  • Portable ice makers
  • Freestanding ice makers
  • Nugget ice makers
  • Portable countertop ice makers
  • Bullet ice makers

Ice Maker

All foodservice operations, like restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and office break rooms, need ice. The easiest way to get ice is to use a commercial ice maker. This machine freezes and stores ice automatically. You need to determine how much ice your pizzeria will need before you buy a ice machine. The rule of thumb for your ice needs is the following: 1.) Figure 1 to 1.5 pounds of ice for every meal. 2.) Divide the figure by seven. 3.) Multiply the result by 12. The final total will be your average daily ice usage. The quick service restaurant would want 5 ounces for 10 ounce drink, 8 ounces for a 12-16 ounce drink, and 12 ounces for a 18-24 ounce drink. The Atosa Ice Makers and machines are the smaller half clear cube and are preferred in restaurant and bar settings.

Commercial Ice Machine

The best temperature for cold drinks like iced tea, water, smoothies, highballs, and iced coffee is 38 to 42 degrees. Drinks become increasingly flat above 42 degrees. Taste buds are affected at temperatures below 38 degrees, decreasing the full flavor of the cocktails and beverages. Atosa Full size cubes will cool a drink in approximately 90 seconds. They melt slower, therefore last longer without over-cooling the drink. Crushed Scotsman and Hoshizaki nugget ice will drop the temperature of a drink to almost 320 in 60 seconds.

Atosa Ice Maker

Restaurant and bar menu changes and a new salad display bar can put a lot of stress on an ice machine. The amount of ice the machine makes depends on the temperature of the incoming water and the room. An air-cooled ice machine typically produces an average of 400 pounds of ice within a 24-hour period. An ice maker receiving water at 60 degrees and a surrounding temperature of 70 degrees can generate just 335 pounds in a 24-hour period. However, if the incoming water temperature increases to 80 degrees and the room to 90 degrees, production will be affected.

A general rule of thumb for estimating ice requirements in dining areas is 5 full size cubes per person per day. 20 full size clear cube = 1 pound. Estimated requirements for cocktails areas, salad bars, etc. would be added. Full cube ice measures 1" x 1" x 1". Half ice cubes are 1" x 1" x 5/8". Mini cube ice is 5/8" x 5/8" x 1". Many manufacturers make different sizes and shapes. Many health codes require scoops with approved holders in ice storage units.

Air Cooled Ice Maker Machine

Oftentimes, older professional refrigeration equipment and air and water cooled Scotsman and Hoshizaki commercial ice machines are plagued with condenser problems. If you have hard water and a compartment maker is used then the cubes will not fall free from it or become stuck in an inaccessible area of your stainless steel machine causing more trouble for yourself! However all Atosa models come equipped with Critical Control Points scoops which work by preventing contact between fingers and arm when handling them so there's no chance of transmitting impurities like bacteria onto food being served on site. This safety feature ensures that businesses do not face health inspections due to unsanitary conditions caused by employees' hands getting dirty making. Older Under-counter Ice Makers have 39lbs bin 77lbs storage bin or 99lbs bin. Atosa under-counter ice makers come with a 88 pound ice bin.  All commercial ice maker include water filter 3M water filter and scoop. Two year parts and labor warranty. Five year compressor Warranty. NSF Rated ETL Approved.

Ice makers are a convenient addition to any kitchen, providing a steady supply of ice whenever needed. While most countertop ice makers don't come with a built-in freezer compartment, there are some models available that do. These ice makers with a freezer compartment offer the advantage of not requiring a waterline, making them easily adaptable to any space. However, it's important to note that these types of ice makers may not produce or store as much ice as their counterparts, and in some cases, they may require occasional defrosting. Despite these minor drawbacks, ice makers with a freezer compartment remain a practical choice for those seeking a compact and versatile solution for their ice-making needs. With their convenient size and lack of waterline dependency, these ice makers provide a convenient way to enjoy a refreshing beverage or make ice for entertaining guests, all without the need for a separate freezer. Plus, the occasional defrosting required is a small price to pay for the convenience and flexibility these ice makers offer. So, if you're in the market for an ice maker that combines functionality and space-saving features, consider opting for one with a built-in freezer compartment. It's a great addition to any kitchen, delivering ice with ease and efficiency.
