Restaurant Equipment and Supply for St. George, Greater Zion and Southern Utah
St. George was founded in 1861 by the Latter-day Saint Cotton Mission, which gave the area its nickname, Utah's Dixie. Cotton never lasted, but the food business did. Cafe Rio and Swig both started here, and Washington County grew from about 26,000 people in 1980 to nearly 200,000 in 2019, according to KUER.
Washington County markets itself as Greater Zion, and its kitchens feed locals and red rock visitors alike. Painted Pony serves contemporary American food with a Southwestern touch in Ancestor Square, Cappeletti's cooks Italian with Argentinian touches on Tabernacle Street, Wood Ash Rye at the Advenire Hotel builds its menu on local history, and Xetava Gardens Cafe sits in Kayenta Art Village in Ivins.

Since 2015, The Restaurant Warehouse has shipped to thousands of commercial kitchens in every state. Southern Utah orders ship from our Denver warehouse, so St. George-area restaurants get the same low prices and freight delivery right to St. George, Washington, Santa Clara, Ivins, Hurricane, Springdale, and Cedar City. The most common orders here are reach-in refrigerators, ice machines, sandwich prep tables, fryers, bar refrigeration, and food truck equipment.
Born in St. George: Cafe Rio and Swig
Steve and Tricia Stanley founded Cafe Rio in St. George in 1997, with recipes inspired by the cooking of the Rio Grande region of Northern Mexico, South Texas and New Mexico. It had 6 restaurants when it was sold in 2004 and 162 by 2023. Swig opened on April 2, 2010, when Nicole Tanner started selling plain Coke and Pepsi from a 700 square foot drive-thru across from what is now Utah Tech University. Its signature is the Dirty Dr Pepper, made with coconut syrup and cream, and it bills itself as the home of the original dirty soda, and Swig announced its 100th store in January 2025.
Fast-casual lines and drink shops run on ice machines that keep up with a drive-thru, undercounter refrigerators for syrups and cream, sandwich prep tables for burritos and salads, and griddles for tortillas.
Dixie Wine and St. George Craft Beer
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Brigham Young sent 30 Swiss winemaking families south in 1861, and by about 1870 roughly six St. George outfits made up to 2,500 gallons a year. In Toquerville, John Naegle built a winery and stone house and could produce as much as 3,000 gallons of wine. The trade faded in the late 1800s, but the Utah Wine Trail launched in 2021, with Zion Vineyards in Leeds, Bold & Delaney in Dammeron Valley and Water Canyon Winery in Hildale. Beer came later: Silver Reef Brewing Co. opened in 2019 as St. George's first microbrewery, and its habanero beer Ay Dios Mio! won gold at the 2026 World Beer Cup. Zion Brewery Station II pours Springdale-brewed beer in a restored 1918 firehouse on Main Street.
Tasting rooms, taprooms and brewery kitchens need draft beer coolers, back-bar coolers, glass merchandisers, and charbroilers and fryers for the pub menu.
Peach Days, Swiss Days and the St. George Farmers Market
Hurricane Peach Days runs in late August or early September and has featured a Peach Cook-off. It traces back to the 1909 Dixie Fruit Festival and was revived in its modern form in 1999. Santa Clara Swiss Days, held the last weekend of September since 1990, honors the Swiss pioneers who turned Santa Clara into a fruit and vegetable garden, with a community dinner, a pancake breakfast and food vendors. The Downtown Farmers Market sets up every Saturday at Vernon Worthen Park, except January, with more than 50 vendors from Washington and Iron counties.
Festival vendors and market cooks work out of food truck equipment and portable griddles, with work tables, reach-in refrigerators and freezers back at the commissary for peak harvest weeks.
