Tucson Restaurant Equipment

Restaurant Equipment and Supply for Tucson, Marana, Oro Valley and Sierra Vista

In December 2015, UNESCO named Tucson a Creative City of Gastronomy, the first city in the United States to get the title. People have farmed the Tucson Basin for more than 4,000 years, and the city still cooks with crops that have grown here for centuries: White Sonora wheat, tepary beans and the I'itoi onion of the Tohono O'odham.

Tucson is also Sonoran hot dog and carne seca country. El Charro Café has served the city since 1922, El Güero Canelo won a James Beard America's Classics award in 2018, and every October Tucson Meet Yourself packs downtown with food vendors. North of town, Marana is a farm town and Oro Valley runs a year-round Saturday farmers market. To the southeast, Sierra Vista is home to Fort Huachuca and sits close to Arizona's first wine region.

Since 2015, The Restaurant Warehouse has shipped to thousands of commercial kitchens in every state. Southern Arizona orders ship from our Brea warehouse, so Tucson and Southern Arizona restaurants get the same low prices and freight delivery right to Tucson, Marana, Oro Valley, Sahuarita, and Sierra Vista. The most common orders here are reach-in refrigerators, freezers, griddles, fryers, ice machines, and food truck equipment.

Tucson, UNESCO City of Gastronomy

Mission Garden, near Sentinel Peak, is a 4-acre walled garden on a site that has been farmed for more than 4,000 years. It grows heritage crops like White Sonora wheat, O'odham pink beans, tepary beans, chapalote corn and Mission grapes. White Sonora wheat is thought to have reached Sonora in the 1640s, and Slow Food credits it with moving borderlands cooking from corn to flour tortillas, the wrapper for the burrito and the chimichanga. The first revival batch was milled in 2011, and Marana's BKW Farms grows it today. The I'itoi onion, a Slow Food Ark of Taste crop, grows in the Baboquivari Peak Wilderness and is named for I'itoi, the Tohono O'odham creator.

Bakeries and tortilla kitchens working with heritage grain need commercial ovens, work tables for shaping dough, and griddles for flour tortillas. Farm-to-table restaurants buying from local growers need two-door reach-in refrigerators and prep tables on the line.

Sonoran Hot Dogs, Carne Seca and El Charro Café

The Sonoran hot dog is wrapped in bacon, tucked into a bolillo-style bun and topped with pinto beans, onions, tomatoes, mayo, mustard and jalapeño salsa. It started in Hermosillo, Sonora, in the late 1980s, and a 2009 estimate counted more than 200 places in Tucson selling it. El Güero Canelo won a 2018 James Beard America's Classics award for its version. El Charro Café was founded in September 1922 by Monica Flin and is still run by Flin's family, and the restaurant bills itself as the oldest Mexican restaurant in the U.S. run by the same family. Its carne seca is beef sun-dried in a cage on the roof, and legend credits Flin with the chimichanga, saying she dropped a burro into the fryer and said "chimichanga" instead of swearing.

Hot dog stands and Sonoran kitchens run on flat-top griddles for bacon-wrapped dogs, fryers for chimichangas, and charbroilers for carne asada. Carts and trucks need compact food truck equipment and undercounter refrigerators, with freezers and reach-ins back at the commissary.

Tucson Meet Yourself, Agave Heritage and Southern Arizona Wine

Every October, Tucson Meet Yourself fills downtown with about 50 food vendors and draws more than 100,000 people a year, which is why locals call it "Tucson Eat Yourself." Every September, Sonoran Restaurant Week puts about 120 restaurants on fixed-price menus for 10 days, and every April the Agave Heritage Festival runs events across the city. Southeast of Tucson, the Sonoita AVA was approved in 1984 as Arizona's first American Viticultural Area, and the Willcox AVA in Cochise and Graham counties followed in 2016.

Festival vendors work out of food truck equipment and need ice machines that keep up in the desert heat. Tasting rooms, brewpubs and bars serving Arizona wine and agave spirits order bar refrigeration, back-bar coolers, glass merchandisers, and draft beer coolers.

Tucson

Operators searching for a restaurant supply store in Tucson usually need a fast replacement, so we ship reach-in refrigerators, freezers, griddles, and fryers to kitchens across the city, from Sonoran hot dog stands to farm-to-table dining rooms.

Marana

Marana is a farm town. People grew corn here by 2100 BC, and the town incorporated on March 21, 1977, largely over water rights. The Wong family began farming in Marana in 1939, and third-generation farmer Brian Wong runs BKW Farms. Marana farms mainly raise long-staple cotton, and durum wheat is increasingly important. Restaurants in Marana order reach-in refrigerators, charbroilers, and ice machines.

Oro Valley

Oro Valley's Heirloom Farmers Market runs every Saturday, year-round, at historic Steam Pump Ranch on Oracle Road. The market launched in 2004, and the town bought the 16-acre ranch in 2008. Oro Valley kitchens and market vendors order sandwich prep tables, undercounter refrigerators, and countertop display cases.

Sahuarita and Green Valley

South of Tucson, Green Valley Pecan Company farms 6,600 acres of pecans in the Santa Cruz Valley at Sahuarita and Continental. Restaurants and bakeries in Sahuarita and Green Valley order commercial ovens, work tables, and freezers.

Sierra Vista

Sierra Vista is home to Fort Huachuca, and the Sonoita wine country is a short drive away. Sierra Vista restaurants and bars order draft beer coolers, bar refrigeration, griddles, and reach-in refrigerators.
